There’s Always Somebody

When life’s water comes up to your neck, it’s easy to feel sorry for yourself.  Today, I learned a friend of mine is in a situation I could never imagine being in.  It would be inappropriate to detail the situation, so I won’t do that.  It just makes you think that there is always somebody worse off than you.

You gotta wonder about marketing people.  A few days ago I posted about the insulting ad that used a logo in place of a halo.  Today, it’s DirecTV.  Back in October, they called with an offer of the NFL  package along with the premium movie channels for a dollar less than I was paying at the time.  Okay, I enjoyed the free NFL package, but we never watch the premium channels.  Literally never.  So I cancelled it.  Today, they called me–twice–to pressure sell me into buying the movie channels I never watch.   I can see calling once, but twice in the same day makes me wonder what they are thinking.  What marketing skills go into intentionally pissing off your happy customers?
