Weekly Update – 10/10/11

It was another productive week working on the first draft manuscript of Rigel Kentaurus.  I managed 13,559 words this past week and hit my 1500-word quota every day this past week, extending my streak to 14 days.   I passed 2000 words three times and 3000 words once this past week.  That makes 26,432 words in the past two weeks, which is NaNoWriMo pace (50,000 words in 30 days).

The project itself is sitting pretty at 78,292 words of a projected 90K.  I am definitely writing the climax of the novel this coming week, and the dénouement could come as early as this week.  I already know the major points of how this will end.  The details will work themselves out on the fly.  If I keep up the pace of the past two weeks, this will be completed this coming week, and that keeps me on schedule to have a fighting chance of releasing it before the end of the year.

I think the 90K projection will be pretty close on the first draft, and probably expand on revision.  There are a lot of details that worked themselves out on the fly, and I need to do a considerable amount of backfill.
