ePub Success Building

The week-and-a-half long struggle to learn ePub format is paying off.  Yesterday, I not only created the ePub and mobi version of “How to Drive a Pinto (Bean),” but I also created all three versions of “How to Eat a Cobalt Bomb.”

What is exciting about that is it took me under 2 hours to finish “Cobalt Bomb.”  Starting with the RTF manuscript, I created the cover image, coded the story in xhtml, hunted down a rogue character that prevented the page from loading, did the mobi conversion, and added the PDF and ePub files to the web site all in under two hours.

Right now I have all three stories in the free area in PDF and ePub formats.  The mobi formatted files will join them.  They’ll move into the store when I replace them in the free area with a different story.  At that time, there will be an option to get all the files bundled together.  Plus, I plan to create a trilogy option with all three stories in the same volume.

Next task: getting the work into the Kindle store.  While I could get the stories to Amazon quickly, I want to make the total package a little more elaborate for that venue.
