New Project – Helping Others Create eBooks.

Saturday evening, I wrote the first 1000 words of my new eBook titled eBooks for the 21st-Century Author.   I added another 1500 words today.

This book will walk the reader through the creation of a cover image, a PDF version, and ePub version, and a .mobi version of  Lorem Ipsum text.  The Lorem Ipsum files will be bundled with the book so they are available to use as templates.  That way, the reader can follow along and make their own ebook in parallel.

It’s intended to be a working text.  It’s already at 2500 words with pictures and screen shots.  The ebook will ONLY be available in PDF format because I have to include too much formatting code.  ePub would try to interpret the discussion and probably choke on bad xhtml.

I will have it posted in my free area once it’s done, and leave it there probably for two weeks after LepreCon ends.  After that, I’m undecided.  I may release it under creative commons and get as wide distribution as possible, or I may sell copies from my web site.  There are advantages and disadvantages of both choices and I need to weigh those.

Either way, people who follow this blog directly, on Twitter, or Facebook will get the opportunity to download a copy free when it’s posted.
