Goodbye Truck

When I took my daughter to the high school yesterday for a Cross Country team meeting, little did I know that I would never pull my truck into my garage again.

I am driving eastbound in the leftmost of three lanes. A car pulls out of the grocery store parking lot turning left to head west. Usually not a problem, but this time he pulled into my path giving me about 30 feet in which to go from 45 to 0.

I did not have enough room, so his car helped my truck to stop. Both airbags deployed, horn stuck on. Radio will not turn off. Airbag deployment is an automatic $1500 per airbag for repacking, and that’s before they even look at damage to my vehicle.

I have over 180,000 miles on the truck. I had a new clutch kit installed 2 months ago. I had new heads installed in the engine 3 years ago. Truck ran beautifully. So sad that it will never hit 200,000 miles.

The other guy’s insurance company will total the vehicle and offer a check that is going to be less than I need to buy a reliable replacement. That means I have to withdraw IRA money with a 10% penalty to buy another vehicle.

I have a nice welt/bruise on my arm and a sore wrist where the airbag slammed into the arm that was holding the steering wheel tightest.

And my only remaining molly died for no apparent reason.
