Story Lengths


In Codex writers group, we are having a discussion on rhythm, in other words, looking for a typical word count on short fiction. I didn’t really remember noticing any trends, so I opened up my spreadsheet and made a plot. Seems I don’t have any preferred length, other than novelettes are rare.

    Hah – I assume you sorted in ascending order before doing that plot. If the lengths of stories was plotted in chronological order, I’d say you have quite the pattern going on…

    Heh. Yeah, sorted for sure, though the recent work is longer than the old stuff. That said, the shortest one is the newest.
