Los Suns

If you haven’t already heard, the Phoenix Suns opted to wear a special jersey they used during a March drive to bring in Hispanic fans again on this Cinco de Mayo.  Across the front of the jersey is written “Los Suns.”  The jersey selection was made as a statement against Arizona SB1070, and had the unanimous support or the players, and had the endorsement of both the NBA players association and the NBA.    the San Antonio Spurs wanted to wear jerseys that read Los Spurs but could not get them made in time.

Remember, world.  Not all of Arizona supports this law.  Your boycott hurts business who oppose the law.   Consider who you are hurting when you boycott.

The U.S. constitution states in part …to ensure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.

4th Amendment: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

A traffic stop of a person who is not white does not constitute probable cause.

Fourteenth Amendment: No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Asking a U.S. citizen to produce proof of citizenship for a traffic violation impinges upon the citizen’s liberty.

This law, SB1070,  is unconstitutional.

By the way, Los Suns won.
